Tho intense cyclone which was responsible for the recent stormy conditions in New South Wales has moved rapidly towards New Zealand since Tuesday night, and this morning it was centred west of Farewell Spit. Yesterday was fair to fine In most districts, but during the night conditions quickly clouded over and rain has since set in almost generally, heavy falls orcurrlug at places surrounding Cook Strait. Northerly winds have increased to gale force in parts, north of New Plymouth and Castlepoint, but thence southwards a change to freshening southerlles has taken place.
