"SUDDEN TEMPTATIONS"
THEFT OF MOTOR OIL
The-"sudden: temptation" of a young man, > a residents:~6f Moera, to steal'some oil led to his. appearance in tho Petone Court this morning, before Messrs, A. Anderson, i.-," and A. Coles,: J.P.'s.: He was charged -with the theft of-four gallons of oil, valued at £1 Is; .the property of W. E.cMillier, and with having1 committed mischief by wilfully damaging a lock valued at ss, also the property of Millier. ' He pleaded guilty to both -Charges. • ■ ■ ' ; '. According to Detective M'Lennan tho defendant -was* driving his car back from Wellington at about 1.15' a.m. on Sunday when he was seized with, a sudden. temptation. He stopped at tho petrol station, at the Petone crossing, and with a tire lever- forced the lock of an oil pump. He filled d four-gallon can with oil, but noticed that he had been seen, and drove away, leaving the oil at the petrol station. , Mr. C. B. Barnett, for the defendant, asked for the suppression of: Ms name on account of his previous good character. Tho defendant was convicted and fined £2, and ordered to pay for tho damage to the lock. His na*nc was ordered to be suppressed. ■
