According to Detective M'Lennan tho defendant -was* driving his car back from Wellington at about 1.15' a.m. on Sunday when he was seized with, a sudden. temptation. He stopped at tho petrol station, at the Petone crossing, and with a tire lever- forced the lock of an oil pump. He filled d four-gallon can with oil, but noticed that he had been seen, and drove away, leaving the oil at the petrol station. , Mr. C. B. Barnett, for the defendant, asked for the suppression of: Ms name on account of his previous good character. Tho defendant was convicted and fined £2, and ordered to pay for tho damage to the lock. His na*nc was ordered to be suppressed. ■
