RACES AT ELLERSLIE
TAUMARUNUI'S FIRST DAY
HORSES IN GOOD FORM
(By Telegraph.) (Special to "The Evening Post.") j AUCKLAND, This Day. ■Although there have been several fine Slays this week, the going is sure to bo heavy for the opening of the Taumarunui 'Racing Club's Meeting at Ellerslie to-mor-row. The size aud quality of the fields ■will not bo up. to the usual standard found at Ellerslie, but in spite of this there seems every ■■ prospect of some interesting racing. The principal flat race, the third event •a the programme, is tho TAUMARUNUI HANDICAP, of 250 sovs, Ono milo and a quarter. st lb st lb True Blood ... 10 6 Flying l'rinco . 9 0 Standfast ... 930 U'rlahnn • .... » 0. «ay Cockade.. 9 10 Barometer ... 9 0 To Hoia 9 1 ■There is a useful field in the Taumarunui Handicap, which should be a good rate. True1 Blood- is returning to form, and he is going to be a very difficult horse to beat. Gay Cockade has been working well, and recent form indicates that Standfast flnd Te^ Hoia will run good races. The main fancies may include True Blood and Gay Cockade. The main jumping event, fifth on the programme, is tho WAITUHI STEEPLECHASE, of 130 sovs. About two miles and a half. - si lb st lb Qulnsllla .... 1" 12 Koyal Visitor .94 .Billy Boy .... 10 !)' Arnpawa .... 8.0 Mashoor .... 10 7 SI. Lucas .... » 0 Town Beauty . 0 10 Day Lark .... 9 0 Most of the candidates for the Waituhi Steeplechase are also engaged in the earlier Hunter? Hurdles, so that form in the hurdle event may give a good line on the prospects. With tho exception of Koyal Visitor, who has shown s^me promise, there does not appear to be anything better than Hilly Boy and Town Beauty, who will probably be the favourites. Horses-in good form and who should race prominently -in the other events named are:—Huntqrs' Hurdles: . Billy' Boy and Town '■'. Beauty. ' Taringamotu. Handicap: Vandyke, and Catoma. "Manniri' Hurdles: Dark Prince and Owairaka. Owhango Handicap: Taurua and Grand Spirit. EanKaroa Handicap: Tetrarchate and luill Measure.-
