Mrs. Horace Smith, Wellington, who visited Christchurch for the Hill-Tingey wedding, returned homo yesterday morning. Mr. and Mrs. Bryan are Christchurch visitors to Wellington. Mrs. E. L. Davies, Geraldine, arrived in Wellington this morning. Mr. and Mrs. Montgomery, Wellington, are staying at the Clarendon Hotel, Christchurch. Mr. and Mrs. Hoare, Duuedin, are visitors to Wellington. Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Hill will arrive in Wellington to-morrow from Christchurch, en route to England. Miss G. V. Howey, Christchurch, arrived in Wellington yesterday morning for a. short visit. Mr. and Mrs. Radcliff-Tnylor loft Wellington for Christchurch on Tuesday evening. Mr. and Mrs. «T. Eeuton Watt, Wellington, have taken Sir Walter and Lady Stringer's house in Auckland during the latter's temporary absence in the South. Many American and Australian visitors have been among the recent guests at The Chateau, Tongariro. Wellington visitors last week were Mr. Gribbin, Mr. Williams, Mr. and Mrs. J. Duncan, Mr. Wilden, and Mr. J. C. Boyes. Senorila Victoria Kent, the first woman lawyer in Spain, who has been practising at the Bar for the last two years, has been appointed DirectorGeneral of Prisons by. the Republican Government. The appointment of a woman to such a high post shows a great advance in ideals by the Republican Government, says a correspondent in the "Manchester Guardian." A recent cable message stated further that she was the only woman returned to Parliament in the General Elections.
