Thought for the -week: Co-operation and | "letting the other fellow do it" are .two different things. :On Thursday evening, 16th July, the first officers' training course for Cubniaste'rs will bo held at the Cambridge Terrace Congregational Hall, commencing at 7.15 p.m. Those interested in this important branch of the movement are asked to keep this night'free. On Thursday, 23rd July, the second course for Scoutmasters, and those with a leaning towards Scout work, will be carried out in The Terrace schoolroom, also at 7.15 p.m. This course is also open to members of committees, instructors, and, in fact,- any interested. The Ist Petone Rover crew wish to remind readers of their appeal for toys, old, broken, or new, which are to be reconditioned, and handed to children at the Crews' Christmas cheer. At a meeting held on Wednesday, 24th June, in the "Roven Den," Lower Hutt, it was unanimously and heartily agreed by'the Cup officers of the Hutt Valley and Pays to form an "Old Wolves" Association. In order to get matters in proper working order, it was decitied to elect the necessary officers, these being as follows: President, District Commissioner R. Nelson; vice-president, District Scoutmaster F. L. M'Kenzie; chairwoman, Lady District Cubmaster Mrs. S. Hoggard; secretary, Assistant-Cubmaster Miss J. A. WitUlngton. To each member present a. jungle name was given, these being:— Mrs. S. Hoggard (Chil), Miss J. A. Wiihington (Minihaha), Miss J. P. Withington (Little Beaver), Messrs. R. E. Leggott (Golden Quil), E. Emden (Tall Pine), C. Dixon (White Fang), W. A. Irwin (Brown Tip), C. C. Campbell (Ko), S. Clyma (Hiawatha). It has been decided to hold monthly meetings, and it is hoped that these meetings, with their interchange of ideas, talks, and discussions, will be of help and assistance to all attending. With the enthusiasm, help, and co-operation,of all members it is anticipated that the meetings of the Hutt Valley and Bays Old Wolves' Association will go with a great swing. ■ . ■ ... . . • Shankar Pratap, Suva, Fiji, writes: "There will-be a.rally again this year m August; it-will be the largest yet held, as Scouts from all;over Fiji will be attending. The local association have decided to invite New Zealand Scouts, and Ido hope some of those friends whom I made while in Wellington, will be coming alongj'as the only expense will be for passage.. Fiji has ateo been having an awfully rough spin, while you. had disastrous earthquakes in Hawkes Bay. We have been having 'hurricanes and floods, this district 'suffering most; -houses blown down, and over- 200 lives lost. Kindly remember me to those'Scouters who were so good to ns during our stay in Wellington, with all best wishes and kind regards from Tuesday, 24th June, was a red letter meeting, for The Terrace . Group. Siser Miller Glennie passed up to the troop, and was duly skinned after the manner of- Karle, the Rock Python. Instruction vtaa then proceeded with, and at 7.40 District Commissioner and Mrs. Vosseler were welcomed in real Scouty fashion. Cubmas'ter P. T. Smither was handed his warrant as Group. Scoutmaster, and presented, with a five years' service medal by the Commissioner, followed by a tew remarks of appreciation. The Group Scoutioaster made a touching reply, and the orbnp feel very • proud of him. Nineteen "Scouts attended the meeting, and the remainder of the evening was devoted to King's Birthday the Ngaio Group fcked to Otani Reserve, and later down to "Crow's Nest," where the billy was boiled, and a pleasant day spent. At preBentall are practising for a concert wtucn is,, to be held in Ngaio Public Hall,-on Bth July, in conjunction with the Ngaio <3irl- Guides. The troop continues to grow in numbers, and it is hoped to form a "Rover Crew in the near future. The Court of Honour usually held on Monday ■openings is now conducted on alternate Mondays, as a number of chaps are working hard, on first claste work, which is being> taken by Scouter Fink, ■ and A.S.M.
