LOWER HUTT COMMITTEE
A meeting of the Lower Hutt Belie Committee was held on. "Wednesday. Th Mayor, Mr. AY. T. Strand, presided.

employed,
Mr. Wallace reported having arranged for the Red Cross organisation to work entirely under the instructions of the committee, to prevent overlapping. Captain Galloway is to be invited to attend the next, meeting of the committee. The Bed Cross will in future operate from its old depot in Feist's building, only on orders from the secretary, Mr. Jones.
Mrs. Nash reported that there was a great need for blankets, ilannel for boys' shirts, material for men's shirts, pyjaraa cloth, women's and children's vesta, and flannelette. The committee appeals for donations of any of these articles. Anyone desiring to make donations is requested to communicate with Mr. Jones or telephone 46-407, or 53 (Hutt). ■ The secretary reported that 3401b of meat and six sacks of potatoes had been issued at reduced rates. The Hutt Meat Company is this week the depot for meat, which: is only issued on orders from the secretary.
. It was decided to obtain, at special .prices, working trousers and boots, which will be sold to those obtaining orders at 5s per pair each.
; Mr. Barton- Ginger's offer to do cartage for the committee was accepted with thanks.
The Industrial Committee (Mr. B. Cooper) reported that barrows, steps, and other articles were now being made by the unemployed, and will shortly be for sale.
Mr. AY. Nash, M.P., reported that the Finance Committee had promises of £44 14s, and £34 :14s had been actually received; that Mr.. J. S. Beid had dealt successfully with several cases of mortgage and rent difficulties, and Mr. Nash himself had dealt with many similar cases. In all cases the principle was adopted that at least small instalments of interest or rent should be paid. ;

Mr. A. J. Gearing, for the Collecting Committee, reported that tickets had been printed for the Rugby match on Saturday (Hutt v. Oriental), the proceeds of which will bo given to the committee. Arrangements were being made! for a.-sftrtjet stall day on 3rd July, for which donations of produce and goods of any kind will be gladly received by Mr. Gearing, telephone 46-533, or 482 (Hutt); The Association Football Club had promised to donate the proceeds of a dance. Mr. Gearing will be glad to have the assistance of volunteer workers for his committee. Archdeacon A. L. Hansell reported on the activities of the Visiting Committee. Mrs. Nash stated that in order to help unemployed women and girls it was necessary that they should reregister. The committee will be glad if private individuals will refer cases that'come under their attention to the committee, rather than give help themselves, so that the cases may be investigated.
