RECORD REGISTRATIONS

ONLY 5000 WITHOUT WORK

During the week ended 15th June, the registrations of unemployed for the Dominion totalled 44,482, compared with 43,453.f0r the previous seven days. In supplying particulars of the registrations' to-day,' the' Minister of Labour (the' Hon; S. G. Smith)' said the apparent increase for the week was 1029. The number of men who qualified under the No. 5 Scheme-and were placed in work totalled 33,751, 4466 were engaged under the 4a scheme, and 603 under the 4b scheme. The total number of men for whom no work was found was 5662. Of that number, however, it was probable that a large percentage was not eligible for employment during the week,' and riiahyj no doubt, could not be placed owing to physical disability.
