Mr. G. Petherick, chairman of the t Siocial Welfare Committee of the Wcl--1 ling{;an. Hospital Board, stated to-day that the expenditure of the committee for the.past month totalled over The amount authorised by the Government was £2750. ■< This meant a-forced over-expenditure, more than half on unemployment cases, of £.4250. The outgoing for the past four weeks equalled the total for the previous eight weeks. While agreeing that every effort must be made to cope with the unemployment difficulty, Mr.' Potherick points out that unless some further monetary provision is made,' or other help given, the board will before long 'be in dire straits in respect of funds . for this class of relief.
