TRENTHAM SCHOOL NEEDS
The member, for the district, Colond T. W. M'Donald, and Mrs. M'Do'nald,".with the Minister of' Lands. (the Hon. E. A. Ransom) visited the Trentha.nj.Sqhooryestqrday. The Minister of .Education '(the Hon. H.'Atniore) had been invited"tS' attend, but sent an apology.1 '? "-; The visitors we're welcomed by the headmaster (Mr. W. J. Melody). He said that the district was growing rapidly,-and the school-needed things that it was,not able to get as Quickly as it would like. It needed eitra land, extra; clasropoms,'and furnishings 'for the existing teachers' room. "•'Since: its establishment in June, 1929, when there were 160 scholars nrthree rooms, the--school had "grown -to 250, accommodated in four rooms: and in • the Sunday School hall. The school could manage at present, but more room,would be urgently required in the near future, Colonel M'Donald promised to do his utmost to' obtain what had been asked for. He said that the-school committee had been notified by the Upper "Butt representative on the Education Board (Mr. P. Robertson) that the board had approved of the purchase of additional land for the school and would recommend the building of more clasirooma. A grant for the furnishing of the teachers' room had been ■ approved of months ago. ' The Minister also spoke.briefly. , On behalf'of the school committee, Mr. S. J. Reid thanked the visitors and the party was entertained at afternoon tea;
