MOTOR DRIVING LICENCE

A caso that will be of much inter* cat to motorists is to be hoard"-in the Christchurch Magistrate's Court,
Upon, a conviction for negligent driving the Magistrate has power to cancel or suspend a person's liconee to drive, and under the third-party' insurance scheme the insurance company nominated by the motorist may, if it 'thinks fit, apply to a Magistrate'to have that motorist's licence cancelled.
A Chiistehurch insurance ' "company; has taken steps to hava a man's liceiica cancelled, and a well-known Dunodirv barrister has gone north to defend him.
"The main, point for consideration ii that the unlicensed oars are not covered1 by third party insurance, and therefore the public are not protected," saiil Sub-Inspeotor Lopdell, when tie cases ca"ine up for hearing this afternoon. "Any claim to grace the public thought they might have had in regard.-to relicensing could not possibly be'eonceded, as they are not protected during the time the car is boing driven unlicensed. Prosecutions are being made iri all cases excepting a few isolated instances whero insurance overlaps the re-licens-ing period."
