PETONE BOROUGH COUNCIL
The ePtone Borough Council met on Monday, the Mayor (Mr. D. M'Kenzie) presiding. There were also present Councillors V. A. Noble, J. W. Longman, V. E. Jacobson, H. A. Rydor,. A. Scholefield E ' T. E. Hogg, J. C. Barns, C. P. Brockelbank, and R. W. Toomath. ,-.. I
The council accepted an invitation to visit the Pctone Technical School to see the pupils at work. i
: Advice was received from the Wellington R.S.A. that it had been decided to make individual grants to returned soldiers, by way of sustenance so that the association was not in a position to make grants through the council.
It was resolved to request the Post and Telegraph Department to install a slot telephone near the Railway Station.
The Borough Solicitor forwarded for execution the lease of the Wellington Outboard Motor-boat Club. Councillor Hogg said that the club had agreed to keep its boats well out from the shore, yet one of them had hit the bathing raft. His! motion that the lease be held over until the council received a report from the club on the accident, was carried.
It was decided to effect earthquake insurance to the amount of £8000 on'the municipal building, and to also endeavour to arrange for earthquake protection /in respect of the Recreation Ground Caretaker's cottage, the waterwork caretaker's house, and a residence upon the Hutt road in which the council has a considerable monetary interest.
The borough inspector . that one case of diphtheria had been notified in May, ' ■
