MILITIA CALLED OUT

VANCOUVER/13th June.
An Edmonton (Alberta) message states that following threats from unemployed, allegedly under Communist influence, that they would seize the civic buildings and loot the stores, the Premior, Mr. J. E. Brownle-e, called for the'militia.
A detachment of the Stratbcona horse was rushed in a special tram from Calgaft-y and was held in barracks. At Calgary a scoro of the unemployed invaded restaurants, refusing to pay after securing meals. They were arrested, but a mob stormed the police headquarters in an attempt t,o release them. The crowd, however, was dispersed by repeated police charges. At Driimheller, Alberta, the whole of tho town council was arrested on the complaint of men out of work and charged with failing to provide for the unemployed, as provided by the criminal code. Canada law stipulates that it shall be the duty of civic bodies to "mako suitable provision for the poor and destitute.''
