HUTT VALLEY CLUB
There was a large attendance of members at the first annual meeting ot the Hutt Valley Chess Club, Mr. G. Wigham (president) occupying the chair. Jhc. animal- report shows that a most successful- first year was experienced, the club winning the Wellington Leagues h grade .teams' tourney,'while the membership steadily advanced from 21 to 3S Eighteen Staunton sets ware obtained by Mr. Giesen (lion, secretary) during his recent visit to England, and- the president (Mr. AVigham) has donated handsome chess boards, so that the club, which meets on Mondays, in the iWealeyan Sunday School, .Main road, Lower, Hutt, is now well equipped with- playing material.-. -The .clubs fast tourney ended in favour ot Mr. J. •Uttaivay, who.thus wins the inlaid board and Staunton chess set presented by Messrs. Wigham and Kelling. The balance-sheet shows a small profit on the years -wolfing. The report and balance-sheet were adopted unanimously. The election of officers resulted as follows:—Patron, Mr. H. ■F. Johnston, K.C.; • president/ Mr. G. Wigham; vice-presidents, Messrs..R. luppen, G. -H. Hignett, G. L. Giesen, and G. E. Grantham; hon.. secretary, G.._L. Gieseu;. - assistant-hbn. secretary, E. W, Meek; hon..librarian, A. Jamieson; hon. auditor, E. T. Lambert; committee, Messrs. J. Ottaway,■£. H. Slacke W. A. Fisher, J. R. Salt-, and J. Pickles. It was decided to nominate F. Iv. Kelling as" the club's competitor in the leagues champion-of-charapions contest.
