MEAT MARKET IMPROVES
The New Zealand Meat Producers Board, in reviewing the London meat market at the end of the week, observes that the lamb market, first quality, remains firm, with quiet demand., Second quality is firmer at better prices. The wethers and ewes market is quiet _ but steady. There is a good demand for lightweight wethers. There is practically no demand for frozen beef. The New Zealand porker pigs market is dull, with little demand, and New Zealand baconer pigs are quoted at nominal prices. Messrs. Levin and Co. are advised by their London office that as compared with last week's quotations best North Island crossbred lambs, 28/3Glb, are l-8d higher; North Island second quality lambs are %d per 1b higher. Others are unchanged. The market is firm but quiet. The Bank of New Zealand produce department has received the following advice from its London office as at close of business last week:—"Frozen meat: There is a good demand for lightweight wethers. The market is short of ewe mutton until the next, arrivals. The market is firmer for second quality lambs; first grades remain steady. There is no demand for beef."
