THORNDON RELIEF DEPOT
In connection -with-"the" Inter-church: Committee for tlie Belief-of Distress,; the city and suburbs havebeen divided into'a number of aroas. Tho area corn--prising the •city and Thorndon as far as tho Tinakori Hills is entrusted to. the city'churches. These have now opened ;i depot for .relief in the Thorndoa Methodist Church in Molosworth street. The depot is open for three afternoons of each week, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, when representatives of the churches are in attendance to give help, so' far as possiblo, to cases of need which fall within the area. This depot is being run in conjunction with; the Mayor's • Central .Belief Committee. Those/in chargeof the depot, and particularly the Eev.' J. H; Odell, will be 'very glad to receive gifts-of-clothing and boots and blankots, and also help in money, and to.hoar of anyone who can find -casual- employment for-either women or men.
A meeting of the residents of-Uongo-t.ai-Miramar districts will bo held iji the Miramar South' School to-night at 7.45 o'clock, to discuss relief organisation and to set up an executive to bo ready at all times. Captain M. S. Galloway, secretary-general of tho Red Cross, will address the meeting.
Capable and willing workers from the combined churches of Berhampore arc using St. Cuthbert's Hall as a bnse for a kitchen. Soup is dispensed daily to 42-relief workers, and also to a number of needy families. ■ Donations of vegetables, barley, lentils, etc., • arc much appreciated. Thanks arc due to -local butcher's,-'-who'are regularly supplying .material for soup.
