OVERTIME REFUSED

WATERSIDERS' DECISION

TWO SHIPS HELD UP

As the result of waterside workers engaged in loading the Commonwealth and Dominion Line's steamer Port Fairy refusing to work overtime this afternoon, seven trucks of a consignment of frozen meat are to remain on tho wharf until Monday. . Another vessel affected by the watersiders' decision is the C. and D. Company's Port Huon, but as she is discharging the position with her is not so serious. -The company heard a rumour of tho troublo yesterday, and this morning made a request earlier than usual for men to work this afternoon. All the men engaged on the' two vessels refused to accept, and, as no other labour was forthcoming, loading and discharging operations ceased at noon. No reason was given by the men for their refusal to work, and no statement was forthcoming from the local union. "A still tongue shows a wise head," said one prominent official who was approached by a "Post" reporter. The meat, which came from Feilding in insulated trucks, is not likely to be damaged, although shipping companies recognise that there is a risk, and thus like to have it placed in the ship's hold as soon as possible. The shipping company can give no explanation for the attitude of the' men, other than that they were adopting irritation tactics as the result of the. wage reduction.
