UPPER HUTT ACTION
■ Mention of the cessation of No. 5 scheme was made at the meeting of the Upper Hutt Borough Council last night. . Councillor T. B. Jameson suggested that the council should hold a special meeting at an early date to consider the position. Councillor G. H. Guthrio said Parliament should be called together earlier to deal with tho position.
"We should get busy. It's no use waiting for Parliament," replied Councillor Jameson.
Councillor Jameson did not think that Parliament could possibly do anything untilthe end of the first week in July. In the meantime the council should do something. "What's tho use of meeting?" asked Councillor Guthrie. "We can only sit here and wring our hands." It was decided to hold a special meeting on Tuesday next. A. letter is to be sent to the Prime Minister asking him to inform the council before Tuesday night whether it has authority to spend 'money out of overdraft for the relief of unemployment distress during the suspension of No. 5 scheme.
