With this, tho June number, "Art in New Zealand" completes its third year of publication. It is a performance on which the promoters of this cultural medium may fairly be congratulatd. It is good to hear from the Editors themsolvcs that the service being rendered to our artist's and writers is' to be maintained at full strength. To quote from the editorial reference: ". . . the future continues to extend to the enterprise a comradely hand. Our adherents show no relaxation of their fidelity, and each year brings recruits to the ranks." Tho June number is strong in variety as in quality. The illustrations in colour are reproductions of the work of the late Bhona Haszard, the late H. M. Gore, Archibald F. Nicoll, and d'Auvcrgnc Boxall. The half-tones includo seven pages of blocks made from o.utstamling canvases hung at the last exhibition of the Canterbury Society of Arts, and several arresting lino "cuts." Both in colour and black and whito the printers have reached a meritorious standard. Oa tho literary side also, the magazine 5s to be -commended. There is a suggestive article (an interview with Mr. Christopher Perkins) on "Tho Temple of the Muses." M7iVliam Moore, one of Australia's pioneers in Bepertory, writes cogently on "Local Drama." Alan Miilgan vignettes the work of Eaith Searle Grossman sympathetically, and "Artificers in Precious Metals" (illustrated) should interest our artscraftsnien in especial. Among the verso are two sets from a New Zealand .poet now resident in California —Dora Hagemeyer, -whoso two sets reveal flashes of rare fragile beauty. A charming short story by Helena Henderson, a London letter and notes on art activities from Australia and the Dominion's chief ccntros 'assist to enhance the merits of the current number.
