Despite tho warnings published" iii the Press after :.the earthquake, people came to Hastings with tho idea of obtaining work,'and many are now at the end' of their resources and on tho verge of destitution.' i Hastings has 600 unemployed >of■ '■ its own, and in - view of that fact, the, '-welfare committee has decided that strangers coming here destitute willI'lib'ineligible.for assistance from local funds. Strangers who have not adequate' resources, will come to the district at their own risk.
