IMPROVEMENT EXPECTED
Anti-cyclonic conditions ruled on Sat-, urday, and fine weather prevailed genrally. During Sunday, however, a depression of the westerly type gradually, moved in this direction, causing northerly winds to strengthen and cloud to increase. Bain set in during tho day in western districts, and since Sunday night it has extended to other parts. Some heavy falls have occurred, the greatest total reported being 250 points at Arthur's Pass. Okuru had 203 points, Westport 144, and Greyniouth 93. A few heavy falls were also experienced last night on the east coast of the South Island. At 9 a.m. to-day dull, unsettled weather was prevailing over .the whole of the Dominion, and the winds were on the chango to southerlies in the south. Auckland experienced a fine weekend, although it was cloudy at times. A moderate south-westerly wind prevailed. It was fine at Wellington on Saturday, but on Sunday a strong northwesterly wind blew and cloudy conditions prevailed. Bain set in during tlio late afternoon, the total being 21 points. Christehureh had a fine, sunny day on Saturday, and a dull, warm day, on Sunday. Rain' totalling three! points fell during Sunday night. At Dunedin it was fine on. Saturday, but Sunday was an unsettled day with intermittent rain. The forecast is for moderate west to south-west winds and changeable weather with scattered showers, but improving shortly. Temperatures will become cooler.
