WOOL UNCERTAIN
CONTINENTAL POSITION
United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. LONDON, 23rd May. The wool situation shows little change. The firmness displayed at the close of the London sales 'induced Yorkshire topmakers to adopt a firm attitude. The market for tops is inactive, and prices are unchanged. The strike of textile wprkevs brought nearly all the mills iv the north of France to a standstill. Consequently there has I been an absence of transactions from that quarter. There is not much demand from Germany at present. The sales of tops last week were below normal, and prices for yarns have fallen a halfpenny to a penny per pound. Particulars regarding old contracts are coming in very slowly. The futures market is unchanged.
The Bank of New South Wales is in receipt of the following cable message from its London office, dated 22nd May:— "Wool: Sales closed loth May, with steadier tone. Since then market quiet."
