A PETROL WAR
CHRISTCHURCH PRICE REDUCED
(By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHKISTCHURCH, This Day. As a result of a petrol war in th# city, the price of first-grade petrol has been reduced by some garages here to Is Od per gallon. ' This has been demo chiefly as tho result of a dispute between the service station proprietors and the garage own. ers, the latter alleging that the servico stations are encroaching on their repair work, etc. Matters came to a head this morning at a meeting of the garage proprietors. Yesterday it was agreed that each firm should bo given a free hand regarding the prices it charged for petrol. Most of tho garage firms also broke away; from the Petrol Resellers' Association, and in consequence of this decision there was a great deal of confusion among motor traders. This morning it was generally known that hostilities had been commenced, but there was a complete lack of unanimity among traders. At one garage a sign was put up: "First grade petrol. Is 9d per gallon." News of the action of this firm spread rapidly among the other garages, and several of them at once reduced their prices. A meeting of the service station proprietors was nel*!, but they did not decide on any change of policy for the present,.
