DISTRACTED LANDLORDS
(From "The Post's" Representative.) SYDNEY, 14th May. Ownership of letting property, especially flats and cottages, is for from a profitable) proposition in Sydney nowadays. Tenants are so fortified by the legislation of a benevolent Labour Government that they can stay in a house practically as long as they like without paying rent. A northern suburbs land agent tells the story—mid it is not an isolated caso by any moans—of how a property owner, after having gone without his rent for about nine months, gave the tenant a clear receipt in order to got him out of the house. These "clear receipts" arc then proudly shown as references when the tenant is looking for other house owners to conquer. Eeliablo agents are careful to warn house and flat owners not to accept tenants without sound references. Sydney property owners are between the devil and tho deep sea. If they let their houses they stand a fair chance of having to whistle for their rent. Even if they take tenants to Court it is only throwing good money after bad in most cases. And if their houses arc vacant the property is looked upon as good game for the depredations nf vandals who are likely to steal or damago everything except the four walls and the roof.
