DROWNED IN RIVER
FALL FROM A LAUNCH
HAMILTON, This Day. Unable to swim, Tasman Stephenson, aged 10, was drowned in the "VVaikato Kivcr, near Huntly, yesterday, when ho fell from a launch in which ho was duck shooting. Stephenson was a youth of fino physique, employed in the coal mines. With another man about tho samo age, named Leslie Harris, ho set out by launch and proceeded down tho river. About two miles north of Huntly tho boat struck a submerged snag, causing it to lurch suddenly. Both youths were standing in the well at the stern of the launch. Stephenson lost hia balance and fell into the river, but Harris, who was steering, was able to steady himself. Stephenson was unable to swim, and before his companion could right the launch he disappeared. A strong current was running, the river being very deep at tho place where the fatality occurred.
