SEVERE PENALTIES

He also was convicted: and discharged for failing to report the accident to the police, h-is' present'• driving-•liceneo- was.- cancelled, and he was prohibited"1 from ;ob> taining another till December,' 1931." :■; The charges arose from a collision in. Feri-y road in April; with a motorcyclist who had a woman pillion rider. ■The. police said.that the , defend fin U who'-vvas ■allege-d'to'have' b'eeh' driving fast, crashed into the .motor-cyclist".and the girl on the pillion and knocked; them' some/distance. They Were injured and taken to hospital. The defendant, did not stop, but went into town. Later he drove back past tho.spot and .was chased by another motor-cyclist after somoone had recognised his car. Tho doctor seemed to be hazy about, tho accident. He had a Indy passenger with him. Later he reported the accident after consultation with an ambulance man. The police said that the defendant must have known, of the accident; his lady passenger was 'injured, and the windscroen of the car was smashed.
Counsel f9l- the defence said that the doctor lost i control •when he met the cyclist,, and then he realised that his lady passenger was atreaming with blood from cutsand needed attention. That was why, he went on. The defendant had suffered a severe shock,: and it seemed that .his faculties were not working properly. Witnesses said that there was no suggestion of drink.- - The Magistrate, Mr. E. Mosley, said: "Counsel has made serious admissions, and I am pleased to see that a man in a most serious position does not burke it, but makes an honest- statement. So far as tho offences are concerned, they are of tho most serious possible nature."
