HUTT RIVER BOARD

The Hutt River Board met last night. There were present Mr. F. S. Hewer (chairman), Messrs. G. A. Chapman, C. Gostelow, and J. Mitchell, the clerk (Mr. A. J. Gearing), and the engineer (Mr. H. Sladden). \ ■ ' . " A letter was. received from J. Stellm drawing attention to flood damage to his land at the rear of Avalon Park, and- suggesting works to prevent further damage. It was decided to give the suggestions consideration. . The Hutt Valley High School, Board of Governors- wrote stating that the flood gate opening out of the school property did not function properly, so that water came up through it into the school grounds at flood times. A reply is to.be sent that the matter had received attention and a repetition of it was not likely, the fault having been due to the jamming of a piece of wood in the floodgate. The chairman is to interview representatives of River Shingle and Sand, Ltd., regarding in application by them for the cancellation of the ...lease of the Gear Island shingle site held by. them which has become unworkable owing to flood damage. The chairman will report to the board. '
