TOMATO PULP TRADE
It is proposed t<j.erect pulping works at Thames, Auckland, to use the large amount o£ tomatoes that are not sent to the market and'go to waste. It is contended that when crdpg are heavy a glut in the market is created, and the growers are forced to take a price that does not pay. The sauce manufacturer can only account for a limited' quantity; as they have their constant sources of-supply from growers who Mtcr for this spec«l ■ market alone. It Iras suggested at. a meeting of Thurnqf jroivers. that tlio most equitable basis rould be that of a co-operative company, which would take the surplus crops and pulp ■'.hem, and manufacture tomato soups «ttid also the tinned tomato, ■which finds * ready gale.
