SYDNEY, sth May. ' Business'at the Commonwealth Bank has become normal, while, tho number of necessitous cases. being dealt with at the State Savings Bank .have .dropped very substantially. Scores of cases of hardship still exist among depositors in the State Savings Bank, and so desperate is the plight of many small tradespeople whose savings are impounded there indefinitely that a percentage are attempting to sell their passbooks to the highest bidders in order to obtain ready cash to meet their bills.
