COLD WEATHER

UNPLEASANT CHANGE

Although the ■weather yesterday was generally cloudy, rain, was confined chiefly to far northern and'southern districts of the Dominion. In the night, however, a- change to strong southerly winds set in, and unsettled conditions extended to other districts,, more especially to those with an easterly aspect. Temperatures became considerably colder than they have been of late. Owing to the advance towards the southern part of New Zealand of a rather intense anti-cyclone, barometers have risen considerably. But pressure is still relatively low over the north of the North. Island owing to a depression located to the northward remaining practically stationary. Auckland experienced dull weather yesterday, with an easterly breeze. In Wellington it was mostly dull too, although the sun shone for a bit in the afternoon. The-wind was a light northerly and temperatures were comparatively mild and pleasant. Chrißtchurch had a sunny day wijth an overcast evening. A fresh north-easterly wind gradually decreased. In Dunedin the weather yesterday was unsettled. With a change in the wind to the south, rain fell in the afternoon. Present indications are for strong south-easterly winds north of Farewell Spit and Kaikoura, gale force being reached in places. Elsewhere winda will be moderate. Fine weather may be expected in the western part of the South Island, in. Otago, and over most of Canterbury, but elsewhere the weather will be changeable and unsettled. Eain. is probable in North Auckland and between Hawkes Bay and the Bay of Plenty, falls in these districts being heavy at times. Scattered showers are probable in other districts. Temperatures will be cold.
