Woodward, S.M., in the Magistrate's Court today. , ...,'. ..'.■.'.■ Sub-Inspector Ward said that in December, 1929, the accused was admitted to two years' probation on a charge of theft. He did not comply with the terms of his release, and in May, 1930, he was fined £5 for a breach. In June the accused 'told the probation officer at Auckland-that he was going to the Waikato to take _up a position; he did not go-there, .but joined the crew of-a boat going to America. He escaped -into; the: United States, but later was traced by. the immigration!.:authorities and was deported to New-Zealand. He arrived'back this morning.: ::?\ "I'm afraid you have had your chaiice,' the' Magistrate told the accused when:tha latter made a plea for another opportunity. ,■■. .■■.:■
