HARD KNOCKS
FOOTBALL INJURIES
The hard, vigorous type of Rugby played bj- Bcrhampore and Miramar "at Newtown Park on Saturday . carried with it the possibility of some heavy knocks for players not yet in proper trim to stand tip to that class of play, and during the game there were several replacements on account of injuries. In this respect Bcrhampore sufferd to a greater extent than their opponents, although one of the Miramar players, Crook, had to retire with an injury to his head. Two of the Berhamporo " players, Mason and Brettis, had to be replaced, and Hooper, who went on in place of Brettis, was injured- within a few nin> iites of taking the iield, but, with "his head bandaged, kept on playing. Brettis was taken home- with an injured leg. The ligaments of Mason's thumb on his right hand were torn, and had to be operated pn in hospital. Some doubt | was- expressed this morning by a memj ber of the Berhampore Club whether I Brettis and Mason-.would bo playing again this season.
