LYALL BAY CASINO
A suggestion was made by Mr. J. N. Wallace, a candidate on the Civic League and Ratepayers'' tickets for the City Council, at Lynll Bay last evening, that that bay might well consider the development of its attractions by a' casino scheme, run by private enterprise under a charter from the council. A company should be formed to acquire the 'necessary rights to erect a building giving facilities such as enn be obtained in other parts of. the world. "I visualise these' facilities somewhat on these lines," said Mr. Wullneo. "An nrtistic approach into a building of probably three stories, the ground floor devoted to dressing cubicles and larger dressing rooms for children, charges to be on the undemocratic principle of paying for what you want and getting what you pay for. Fresh-water shower baths would ' of course be included in the equipment. Provision would bo made for life-saving clubs and kindred organisations desiring to rent their own premises. On the first or second iloors would be provided a fair-sized hall which should be productive of revenue throughout the winter as a cabaret and .could be used at all seasons for.local functions.. A good restaurant should be provided. Such an enterprise would bo an asset not only to Lyall Bay but to the whole of Wellington, and with-proper co-operation from all directions should boa. paying business from its inception."
