SETTLEMENT OF DISPUTES
Councillor H. M'Keflii, M.P., Labour candidate for. the City Council, speaking at Island Bay, said lie had always contended Unit the City Council should bo a model employer, and the best possible working conditions and remuneration should be given to the employees. All disputes between the council and its workers to lie settled directly between representatives of the council and the unions, or, failing that, by the Conciliation Council or the Arbitration Court. "To maintain the highest efficiency in the council's service," continued the speaker, "harmony between employees, staffs, and City Council should be this aim. In this direction an appeal board should be instituted, where all municipal employees can have their grievances ventilated and redressed." Ho said that full publicity should bo given to all. City Council business, especially financial businesses, and the restoration of the citizens' right, to represent grievances and requirements to open meetings of the council. Air. M'Keeii also dealt; with the urgent need for improvements to Ihe beaches,'and advocated an extension of bathing facilities, and conveniences to accommodate the crowds which frequent, the benches during the summer months.
