A STORM APPROACHING

The last of the anti-cyclone responsible for the recent spell of pleasant weather has been seen as far as the Dominion is concerned, for it is now passing away off the East Coast of the North Island. Tho effects of a rather intense cyclone, moving gradually towards tho North Island from the north-West, are already being felt. Over the northern half of tha North Island considerable rain has already fallen, and since last night there have been scattered falls in the AVellington, Nelson, and far southern districts. Dull and misty weather now prevails over the greater part of the country. Northerly winds have freshened somewhat in and north, of Cook Strait, and Cape Maria van Diemen-re-ported a. northerly gale at 9 a.m. to-day.

Auckland experienced a dull day yesterday with a fresh north-easterly wind. Since last night some heavy rain has fallen there. A fair, mild, and dull day was Wellington !k lot yesterday, little or no .wind being experienced. Light rain, amounting to two points, fell early this .morning. A:fter a frosty night Christchurch had a, fine- morning, but in tho afternoon a frcs.li easterly wind made conditions cloudy and less pleasant. A light north-easterly wind prevailed in Dunodin yesterday, the weather being fair, mild, arid cloudy. Northerly winds will be general, and ■will be strong to gale force in the far north, Elsewhere they will be moderate, but are likely to freshen. Dull and misty weather with general rain is forecasted. In the North Island and in parts of the Nelson and Marlborough districts some heavy falls are probable. Temperatures will be mild,
