MAGISTRATE'S COURT
Police eases in the Magistrate's Court yesterday were dealt with by Mr. W. H. Woodward, S.M. Four first offenders for drunkenness were each fined 10s. "It's a" clear case," said the Magistrate, in sentencing John Patrick Keown, aged 33, to six weeks' imprisonment on a charge of attempting to steal 17? 6d from Arthur Hancock. The evidence was that when the complainant was counting his money in the street the accused knocked the money out of his hand and two of the accused's friends picked it up. On a charge of behaving in a disorderly manner while drunk, Keown was convicted arid .discharged. . . .... -i- •' On the. application of Sub-Inspector Ward, William King, a labourer, aged 57, was remanded until 6th May on a charge of indecently assaulting a. girl aged 13. The Sub-Inspector opposed an application for bail, made by Mr. W. E. Leicester. "I think in the accused's own interests and the interests of justice bail should not be granted, as there is the possibility of the. accused doing himself some harm,"; he said, There would be a number of other charges. ~ Bail,: yfaa refused. At the annual meeting of the local branch of the Australian Association of Psychology and Philosophy, to be held' at Victoria University College on Friday next, four talks will be given on the various aspects of the work of a psychological clinic. The speakers will be Dr. Ada Paterson, Professor T. A.. Hunter, Dr. I. Sutherland, and' Pro-, fessor W. H. Gould. The meeting is open to all interested. :
