TWO MEN KILLED
CAR AND CYCLE IN COLLISION
ACCIDENT AT GLENSIDE
One man was killed instantly and another sustained injuries from which h« aied some hours afterwards in the Wellington Hospital as a result of a collision between a motor-cycle and a mo-tor-car, near Glenside yesterday afternoon. The victims are: — Alexander Basil Claude Davenport, aged 17, who lived in Arthur street, Otaki, and who was a former resident of Palnicrston North, and Arthur Hoskings, aged about 35, T}«» lievcd to ltave lived with the Daveaports in Otaki. The accident occured about 100 yards south of the Public Works Office .at Glenside, on the road between Johnsonville and Porirua, shortly after 4.45 p.m. Two motor-cycles, one ridden, by Davenport with Hoskings a« a pil-lion-rider, and the other ridden by; Walter Joseph Charlton, of Tawa Flat, were travelling in a, northerly direction. Davenport overtook and endeavoured to pass Charlton, but in doing so his motor-ccyclc collided with » "baby" car travelling in the direction, of Wellington. The cycle struck the bumper and the right-hand mudguard of the ear, throwing both riders heavily to the ground. Davenport was' killed instantly, and Hoskings sustained a fractured skull and a broken right wrist. The Free Ambulance, was summoned, and Hoskings was taken to the Hospital, whero he died at 12.20 this morning.
The driver of the car, Edward Windrum, of Collinge street, Lower Hutt, was badly cut about tho face by glass from the windscreen. Aftor being attended to by Dr. Aitkcn he was able to ■proceed to his home.
