THEFTS FROM HOTEL
Although he was only released from prison last week, John James Ross, a labourer, aged 44, appeared again at the Magistrate's Court yesterday before Mr. E. Page, S.M., and was sentenced to reformative detention for a period not exceeding two years, on a charge of stealing a fur coat valued at £30, the property of Christina Braid. On two other charges involving the theft of a clock, watch and chain, and overcoat, he was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence within two years if called upon. Sub-Inspector Ward said that the accused was seen by a detective in Tory street endeavouring to dispose of a lady's fur coat. He was under the influence of liquor, and was locked up for drunkenness. It was then ascertained that''the coat had been stolen from a room at the Central Hotel. When he was arrested he had in his possession all the, articles mentioned in the charges against him.
