SATISFACTORY YEAR
CLYDE QUAY SCHOOL
Although representations for increased capitation were fruitless, and a request for the replacement of the present school by a building on the new site was deferred until the financial position of the Dominion is more flourishing, a satisfactory year is recorded by the Clyde Quay School Committee in its animal report.
The present capitation amounted to only X.H pa- calendar month, stated the report, and as the caretaker received -more than £12 it would be seen that the committee had to act very cautiously in the matter of finance, and were it not that the account was augmented by rent for the grounds the committee would not be able to carry on.
Members of the committee had regularly visited the school at work aud had been quite satisfied in every way with the conduct, administration, and the conditions generally. The work of the school had been maintained with customary high efficiency by a capable and loyal staff, and parents need have no concern for the welfare of their children as pupils. Careful attention had been given to the school buildings and grounds, and they had been maintained in as good order as was consistent with their age.
The committee recorded its appreciation of the consideration shown to it by the Education Board in every request made for repairs and renewals, and also of the amicable relations existing between the staff and tho committee.
The headmaster reported that the averago attendance in 1930 was 407 in the main school and 12S in the infant department. The sqhool had opened in 1931 with a roll number of 452 pupils in the main school and 124 infants. Forty-five pupils had gained proficiency certificates and eleven competency certificates, and the school had also had a successful year in sport. Religious instruction of half an hour a week had been carried out throughout last year and was being continued this year. ...
