SUBURB AN HANDICAP, of 2000 soys; second 200 sovs,'third 10 soys; about one mile and * quarter. Steel's b c Cabailcro,- Ybro—*" ■• Queen of Spain, 6yrs .".....:. 3 Seventeen started. Won by threa lengths,' a length between second sud third. - ~
The City and Suburban.- Handicap usually attracts entrants of a. high order, but this year the race d}.d- not meet'with quite tho anticipated patronage. However, quality was well represented in the horses nominated, and th« four-year-old division were considered to-be well up to standard. > .Notable among the latter section wcre>th& horse who finished second, The Pen (winner of last year's Cambridgeshire), Bustom Pasha (winner of last year's Ecli.pse Stakes and Champion Stakes) ; ' and Xandovcr (easy winner ,of the last French Two Thousand Guineas), , Another notable entrant was . the Aus- • tralian champion, Strephon 11., who was duo to open .Ms second season^ racing in the "City." • Strephon'was - unable,to fulfil tho programme mapped out for him last season, his essays being confined to two races late in. ,the year, and in neither, instance was 'his effort attended with, success." The cable docs not state if any of these except The Pen started, but as the field wa» reduced from 41 to 17 it is possible that some at least did not go to the post.
