MUCH ALARM CAUSED

A fairly severe earthquake was felt here at 11.10 a.m. to-day.. A few partlydemolished walls fell, but no damage is reported. The chief concern of residents seemed to be anxiety as to the effects elsewhere. '•■•.■ WAIPUKUEAU, This Day. A severe earthquake shock was experienced at 11.12 this morning. The shock comprised a sudden jolt, followed by a gentle swaying motion. People hurriedly left , buildings and rushed.into the streets and open places. Children.' promptly. . evacuated the schools.' No damage is reported. Clocks stopped, everhead wires swung, and buildings creaked ominously. The residents of Waipawa were similarly alarmed. No damage was caused. DANNEVIBKE, This Day., A jolting earthquake at 5 p.m. yesterday was followed, by a severe disturbance at 11.15 to-day, it being of sufficient strength to cause many people hurriedly to leave buildings. No damage occurred. ■ , ...'.. WAIBOA, This Day. A : severe shock of . earthquake was experienced this morning at 11.7 o 'clock, greatly alarming residents. HASTINGS, This Day. Hastings w. s soundly shaken, by an earthquake at 11.10; o'clock this, morning. Excepting the two shakes on 3rd February and the shake on 13th February, it was the severest yet felt, and had. almost exactly in a minor degree the characteristics of the first big shock. No damage is reported, but men on demolition work', particularly the scaffolding at the National Bank and St. Matthew's tower, were frightened. Concern was felt.by schoolmasters as the school children showed much nervousness. : : . '
