The Foreign Secretary, Mr. Arthur Henderson, in the House of Commons, stated that, according to a cable received from the British 'Charge d'Affaires in Nicaragua, bandits had been active on the eastern coast of the Republic, but had been checked by the National Guard and were reported to be retreating inland. He regretted that in these disturb^ anccs two British West Indian subjects from Jamaica, Messrs. Henry Roper and Walter Manning, were reported as having lost their lives. Three United States warships had been .dispatched to the east coast ports with authority, he understood, to disembark armed parties should the neces-, sity arise. In the opinion of the officer commanding tho National Guard, the situation was now under control.
