MINER SENTENCED TO

DEATH

SYDNEY, 21st .April,

Sentenced to death for murdering a married woman, Julia Hughes, on 4th March, John Ea,de,a coalmtner at Cessnock, told the Court that he had a dispute with Mrs. Hughes, whom he loved, and hit her on the head with an axe. He then cut off his own hand with, the object of bleeding to death, but he recovered. The jury inado a rceommondotion for mercy.
