"" Luval, wKo won the Eureka Handicap for two-year-olds* at Te Rapa on Monday and- paid a ' substantial ' dividend, is a brown gelding by Valkyrian from Luculia, by Lucullus from the imported English mare' Merry Nif, the dam also of General Latour »(sirc of Te Kara and Karapoti), Shower-. Gold (dam of King Lv), and others. Luval is owned by Mrs. E. A. Scott, and he had. had several starts prior to Monday without showing any particular possibilities, j Another Surprise. Another surprise winner at Te Rapa i-n Monday was L'Allegro, who. scored in the Ohinewai Maiden Handicap. L'Allegro, who docs not appear on the records as having raced previously, is a four-year-old chestnut gelding by Day Comet from, the Arehiestown mare Lady Faithful (who never raced), and is owned by Mr. P. G. Vercoe.i Originally he was registered under the name of Broken Faith, but this name -was changed in May, 1928. As he has' strong jumping strains in his pedigree, being1 a gicat grandson of Lobelia, the dam of El Gallo and granddam of Wiltshire, it is likely that he will be transferred to the fencing department of the sport later on. May Not Use Permit. The Otaki-Maori Racing Club ha^ objected to the Levin Racing Club holding a meeting on 30th May, the date sought for -the proposed extra day's racing, as the day is the Saturday preceding the opening of the Otaki Meeting on Wednesday, 3rd June. The Levin Club is stated not to be piepaied to conduct a steeplechase meeting at a later date, and in all probability it will-now abandon the extra permit.

No higher tribute could have been paid to the worth of an Australian-bred sire, and no greater encouragement could have been given studmasters to patronise stallions who have been reared.and raced on Australian soil.
