A TOMATO PEST

In response tojnquiries made by Mr. "Walter Nash, M.P., as to - the ' steps which were being taken to remove the menace of tomato moth from the Hutt Valley District, the Hon. A. J. Murdoch, M.P., Minister of Agriculture, has replied saying that since he last wrote on the Ist April, growers in- the Hutti Valley district have ' been visited, and it was found that they wero taking a keen interest in controlling the pest. The methods recommended have been put into energetic operation, and if this is maintained a very good improvement will undoubtedly, be experienced. The entomologist of the. Plant • Keaearch Station has also visited the.district, and collected additional, supplies of infected material for the insectary at Palmerston North, where: the pest is being bred and its life history studied with a view to improving the method of control. -The Minister says that the growers can rest assured that an-ener-getic attack on the pest is being made.
