INCREASE JN TEAMS

It is .recorded in tin; annual report of ihc Wellington 'Primary Schools' Kugby Union tliiit iifty-live teams from twentyfour schools took part in the various grade competitions last season, the total representing an increase of eight (.cams on that of the previous year.

In most of the grades the teams wore .fairly, evenly matched, with the result that matches were close ami the competitions keenly contested. The fourth and liftii grades .were divided into two divisions, so that travelling was eliminated as far as possible. It is considered that the weight j limit greatly improved the competitions, but: it is also felt that Kongotai College receives an undue advantage in numbers and weight, ami that its position should be seriously reviewed. A new grade, tho sixth, grade, was inaugurated for players below .Standard a and under 0 stone in weight. Matches in this grade and in the fifth grade were played on the halffield. This to a great extent relieved the pressure in arranging sufficient and suitable grounds for all matches. The: results of representative matches played against Horowhenua and Hutt Vailey shows that in six matches tho \Velliu"ton'teams won'four and lost on*, the other'being drawn. In the annual tournament held at Palmerston North, the Wanganui and Jlanawatu teams finished up on equal terms for the premiership. The Wellington team put up good performances, strongly contesting its games. The team defeated Wairarajpa by 16 points to 3; lost to Wauganui, 3-8; and lost to Manawatu, 0-3. In connection with the tournament it is mentioned that at tlic next meeting Of delegates notices of motion to be moved include: (1) That the age limit be altered to 15 years on 31st December preceding the tournament; (2) that | boys' ages be certified to by the headmasters of the schools from which the boys C Congratulations are extended __ to the Hutt Valley Primary Schools Union on the successful inauguration ot the quadrangular contest with Taranaki, Kangitikei, and Horowhenua. Mention is also made of the fact, that thanks to the generous assistance of the Wellington Ruizbv Union a competition has been started among the, Porirua, Phmmerton, Paekakariki, Waikanae, and Paraparaumu shows a credit of £10 ■12s. ; ■ ■
