Mr. R. A. Armstrong, president of the Wellington Trotting Club and secretary of the New Zealand" Moderate League, accompanied by ' Mrs. Armstrong, left by the Makura yesterday afternoon on a health-recruiting trip to Tahiti. He was farewelled at -tho> ship's side by a-large and representative gathering of members of various sporting bodies.' Mr. and Mrs. Armstrong will be away for abont two months. - ' -

The death occurred recently at his residence in Kilbirnie. of Mr. David Hercock at the ago of 64 years. He was born to. the Hutt district, but Went to the Wairarapa with his parents. He farmed for 28 years at Nireaha, Eketahuna, retiring to live in Wellington two years ago. The late Mr. Hercock, who was a member of the Forresters' Lodge, Carterton, is survived by his widow, two sons, and two daughters. One son was killed in the war. ' '•

Mr. William Homy Scott Kinsey, who was formany years in business ,on Lambton quay as a photographer, died in Wellington yesterday afternoon at the age of 71 years. Ho had been living in. retirement during the past few years. In his younger days Mr. Kinscy took considerable interest in th« volunteer movement and,was-a,;lieuten-ant in tlio iterptaunga Mounted Rifles. Up served in the South African War, and obtained his captaincy-, there. .. Mr. William' John Moore, of Makuri, Jfortii Wairarapa, died recently at the age of 01. • -lie came to New Zealand in 1880 from "the Isle'"of Man,- and took up land.1" On the outbreak of the Te Whirl disturbance he joined the Armed Constabulary and was appointed officer in charge of defenco stores in Taranaki. He was'stationed at Opunakc, and remained there for some years. Later, Jie was transferred to Duucdin, and while thero was in charge of the military exhibits at the Dunedin Exhibition' of 1889. He was then transferred to headquarters at Wellington. He tbok up a. farm in Makuri iri 1891, and for many years was a'very active member of the Farmers' Union. He was an active Mason", and while in Wellington was chairman and a primary organiser of the Associated Friendly Societies' Dispensary, and was instrumental in. forming a branch of the women's division of the Foresters' Lodge (Court Lady Glasgow). He was appointed a Justice' of (he Peace in 1903. Mr. Moore -is isitrvived by a widow and four children— Mrs. A. Moore (Putake), Miss Moore (Makuri), Mr. J. A. Moore (Danncvirkc), and Mr. C. Moore (Makiui), ami seven grandchildren. A brother, Mr. L. L. C. Moore, resides in. Wellington. _. . '-
