RUGBY ENTRIES

SENIOR A; COMPETITION

Entries for all grades in the Wellington Rugby Union's competitions, .which are to start on 2nd May, closed yesterday, ana. to-night they will, be considered by the Management Committee. Special interest attaches to the en-. tries for the senior A grade competition in view of the motion carried by one vote in fifty-nine at the-special meeting of delegates held recently that there be two open grades, -without restriction. In past seasons the A grade has been, confined to ten teams, and under the rules in force, "Wellington last season won their way back from the B grado into the A grade and University were duo for relegation to the B grade this season. The position, howevor/ as a result of the decision made at the special meeting of delegates, left the University Club ana any club desiroug of senior A grade status free to enter in the A grade: v ' ■ The entries-were not available, to-day, but it does not appear likely that the University Club ■will have entered for the B grade, and it is known that one club at least —Miramar—has taken advantage of the opportunity of going up a grade, so that in all probability twelve entries have "been received for tho senior A competition." v ' ' ; Since the special meeting of ■ delegates thore- have' been suggestions that the decision tha£ there be two open grades is ultra vires, and it seems pos^ sible that thd position will be reviewed by the Management: Committee this evening. . ; ' .:" . The Miramar Club has only been in existence two seasons, but with tho advantage of a growing district it" has made rapid progress, and this year it is statea that the club has well over 200 tnembers. Several meetings were held by the committee of the club last week to aiseuss' tho question of whether tho club shonia enter its first- fifteen in the A grade competition, and after the match with Eastbourne on Saturday tho mattor was finalised. ■ ••
