HUTT ROAD WORK
MOTORISTS COMPLAINING
A number of complaints have been made to "The Post" by motorists over the manner in which the widening work is being carried out on. the Hutt road near Ngahauranga. As is shown in a photograph published on another page of this issue the metal which is to be used in the concrete mix for the \viden: ing foundation is stacked on the bitumen track, reducing the effective width of the pavement to not much more than 12ft. It is contended by drivers that some other system could be followed, either by tipping the metal in heaps on tho macadam wing or on the edge of the cycle track, which is . blocked in any case by tool sheds, etc. They admit that when widening is being carried out a certain amount of inconvenience is to be expected, but contend that so great an inconvenience and, at night, very real danger, are unnecessary. The manner in which the gravel piles and the excavations are lit at night has also been none too favourably commented upon. ___^____
