A DEFENCE OF STUDENTS
(To the Editor:) Sir,—l wish to reply to a.letter which appeared in yesterday's "Post." It was written by one under the name of "Artistic," concerning the way in which the University students advertise their Extravaganza. Certaiuly no one_ approves of the chalk scratching on private property, but before, one actually condemns the student. for. his thoughtless action, one should review the student himself. Most of the University students are young men who are working hard all day and studying all night. Consequently, when such an exciting event as the annual Extravaganza takes place the students (and ono must remember it is usually the first and second year students who give the most trouble) are just like boys let loose from school. They are bubbling over with enthusiasm to advertise their "show"; these misguided youths arc simply aiming at advertising, and thus helping their college. Of course, they haven't stopped to think. But does anyone stop to think? Do the men who are in authority stop to think? I hope that the general public will not forget that boys are boys the world over, and Victoria University College students arc no exception to the rule; nor are they any worse than the students of any other University. Do not think I am excusing the boys for their disfigurement of private property; but I am merely pointing out that there are worse offenders in this topsy-turvy world.—l am, 'etc., JUDICIA.
