BUT STILL COLD

Somewhat unsettled weather continued to prevail yesterday over the North Island, with rain in places. A few isolated and light showers also fell on the East Coast of the South Island. The weather in western districts of the South Island, on the other hand, was fair t& fine. Yesterday's shallow cyclone which covered tho North Island has dissipated, and tho front of an extensive anti-cyclone is now advancing upon the Dominion. Tho rise in pressuro has so far- been greatest over the South Island, with^-tho. consequent continuation of south-easterly or southerly winds, which have been fairly strong northward of Cook strait. AVind force, however, has materially decreased, especially over the South island. A general improvement in the weather was in evidence this morning, although temperatures wero still cool. . ' ■ ■ Pair to fine weather, with a southerly breeze, prevailed in Auckland yesterday. In Wellington a fresh southerly brought cold and dismal conditions with. it. The light rain which fell amounted only to two points. A misty morning in Christehurch was followed by a fine afternoon. The southerly decreased as the day wore on, and there was a slight frost at night. Dunedin enjoyed a calm and sunny day. Moderate to strong southerly to south-easterly winds will prevail north of Farewell Spit and Kaikoura; southward of those points winds from the same direction will. be only light to moderate. Fair to fine "weather for the most part may be expected, although showers are still likely in eastorn districts of the North Island ■between Castlepoint and the Bay of Plenty. Cool temperatures are indicated, with inland frost?
